Activities A-Z

Teddington School offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities from sports to the arts, humanities to academic support. Most activities are free and all students are welcome. However, where activities are led by organisations from outside the school, a termly fee may apply and participation is on a first come first served basis.

Activity Description Fee
Art Mr Reuben has his room open every lunchtime for GCSE students to do additional work. Students from other years are also welcome to these free drop in sessions. Art Masterclasses are offered on Monday and Tuesday after school (3.15-4.45pm) to KS3 students. Teacher: Raw Ground Arts £84
Athletics During the summer months, athletics is offered to students in all year groups. As a school, both boys and girls have the opportunity to compete in the Richmond Borough Athletics Championships. In recent years, students have had success at this event as well as at the Middlesex and English Schools competitions. Free
Badminton Badminton club offers the opportunity for students to play recreationally and at a competitive level. Both the boys and girls enter the Richmond Borough Championships at Year 7/8 and Years 9 - 11 (combined). Free
 Ball Boy /Girl Training Years 9 and 10 Friday After School  
Basketball The boys will enter teams in the Borough Leagues at Y7, 8, 9, 10 and 11. The girls have Borough tournaments at Y7, Y8/9 (combined) and Y10/11 (combined). The girls have been entered in the Surrey Cup at Y7, Y8/9 (combined) and Y10/11 (combined). Free
Beach Volleyball    
Chess Club    
Choir Open to all years, the school choir practices on a Friday in MU2 from 12.45-13.30. This activity is run by the Richmond Music Trust. Free
Creative Writing The Creative Writing Club is open to Years 8, 9 and 10. It is held fortnightly in Room 103 on a Wednesday lunchtime. Free
Cricket Both the boys and girls play Indoor and Outdoor Inter cricket Borough tournaments at Year 7/8 (combined). The girls also have a Year 9/10 (combined) indoor tournament. The boys have handful of friendly Saturday fixtures at Years 78 an,d 9. The Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 teams will be entered in the Middlesex Cup. The Year 7/8 boys (combined) also have a Borough Inter cricket league. All home games are played at Hampton Wick Royal Cricket Club.  

The Dance Studio is open for all years every day from 12.45-13.10 for classes with Miss Reynolds.  For anyone wishing to practice, the Activity Studio is also open every day at the same time.

From September - March, dance is offered to all year groups in PE. Sessions take place in a variety of styles and students are encouraged to be creative and choreograph their own work as much as possible. Close links have been created with Combination Dance and students regularly have the opportunity to work with professional dance artists from the company.

Highlights of the dance calendar are the Performing Arts Evening and Dance Evening. Dance Evening is the major focus and takes place in March each year. It regularly sees over 100 students performing a range of dance styles.

Drama We run a number of extra-curricular clubs and activities such as Year 7 Drama Club on Monday after school and Thursday lunchtimes, House Drama competitions, Shakespeare Schools Festival, Performance Evenings, and an annual production involving large numbers of students from all year groups. French The Year 7 French Club is held on a Monday lunchtime with Ms Tompkins in Room 202. At the same time, GCSE French Support is available for Years 10 and 11 in Room 205 with Ms Green. Free

German GCSE German support is available from Mr Garrett in Room 203 on Tuesday after school. Free
Handball  Years 10-13 Friday after School  
Harmony Club Led by Mr Cragg or Ms Rainer in MU2 at lunchtime, the KS3 Harmony Club is on a Thursday and KS4 is on a Friday.  Free
Hockey Hockey at Teddington School has grown in both popularity and strength over recent years. At present we have many students, both boys and girls, competing at county standard and above. During extra-curricular time, hockey is run from September to March for both boys and girls. In the Autumn Term the Year 9 (Under 14s) teams are entered into the London Hockey Championships. The Year 7 & 8 combined girls side also take part in the Richmond borough league. From January to March, the Year 7 and 8 teams are also entered into the London Hockey Championships (Boys and Girls) where they play a modified version of the game on a smaller pitch – aiding their development as players.

 Boys Hockey takes place on Thursdays after school 3.30-4.30 pm.
Homework Club  Every Lunch time and after school (except Tuesdays)  
Japanese Japanese lessons are available to all students after school on a Monday in Room 205. Free
Karate The Karate club has been running for five years, and is a friendly yet formal introduction to this fascinating oriental martial art. Students typically join in Year 7 or 8, but the club is open to all students, and can offer training all the way to black belt. The traditional karate syllabus has been developed for schools by the United English Karate Federation (

Music Lessons The fully-equipped Practice Rooms are available to book before school, break times, lunchtimes and after school.  
Netball Netball is offered as an extra curricular activity from September to March and is always extremely popular. In the Autumn Term the Year 9 and Senior (Year 10 and 11) teams are entered into the Richmond Schools League and Tournaments. From January to March, the Year 7 and 8 teams are also entered into these competitions. Where possible, additional sessions are offered with external coaches and older students are encouraged to assist with the Junior teams.

Orchestra The school orchestra is open to all years and rehearses in MU2 on a Wednesday lunch time. Mrs Bowman and Ms Rainer  Free

Rounders Rounders is offered for an after school activity for girls in the summer term. Both a Junior (Year 7 and 8) and a Senior (Year 9 – 11) team is run and entered into the Richmond Schools League.

Sailing Each year, Year 7 students are offered the opportunity to visit the United Kingdom Sailing Academy in the Isle of Wight to learn a variety of water sports.

Singing We have a singing group for each year, a whole-school singing group, regular school productions and a regular ‘open mic’ session.

Table Tennis Table Tennis is growing in popularity and two after school clubs are currently run. Teams have competed in the Richmond Borough competition and have had success at various ages groups.  
Tennis The school enters teams into the AEGON National School Competitions for Year 8 and Year 10. In our first year of entry our Year 8 Boys A squad made it through to the finals of the Middlesex Competition and narrowly missed out on progressing into the quarter finals of the National Competition. There were also teams in the B groups for both boys and girls. Wimbledon Ball Boys and Girls.  
Trampolining Trampolining is available afterschool throughout the year, with sessions run for complete beginners up to the more competent trampolinists. Competitions are available for those that wish to compete. In previous years we have been successful in various competitions including the Richmond Borough competition and the London Schools Competition.
